Hewett goes continental with history & languages trip to France
BackPupils from city high school Hewett Academy have enjoyed their first residential foreign trip since covid with a 4 day trip to France.
40 students and 5 staff took in the sights of Normandy, being able to pay their respects to war heroes at Commonwealth graves and going to the D-Day landing beaches. Students then practised their French in local markets and town, before practising their karaoke back at the hotel!
Trip organiser, French teacher and Assistant Principal Nina Torin said:
"A very early start was had by 40 pupils in years 9-11 on the Saturday morning who travelled to Normandie. The very grand Chateau du Molay was their home for 3 nights and all enjoyed the impeccable service, beautiful grounds and evening entertainment. Visits were both cultural and historical and included a trip to Caen market, a snail farm with snail tasting, extensive D Day landing beaches, memorials and the American cemetery. The weather was particularly kind as they enjoyed the picturesque towns of Honfleur and Bayeux. It was a triumphant trip which we now intend to hold annually.”
Principal Antony Little said:
“We are so pleased to have done this trip – the first of many – as part of our strong cultural capital offer. Our Ofsted last year noted our outstanding personal development and the appreciation our students have for these opportunities. They had a great time and were brilliant ambassadors for their school – and our country. Thank you to the staff, volunteers and students for making this such a success.”
