Ofsted Information
Hewett Academy is rated Good with Outstanding features in an inspection carried out in October 2023.
Hewett Academy, which was founded in 1958 and joined Inspiration Trust in September 2015, was previously awarded a ‘Good’ rating in 2018.
Ofsted commended the school’s dedication to the care and wellbeing of its students and the friendly atmosphere, commenting:
“Pupils enjoy attending Hewett Academy. They are happy and cared for. Pupils know that there is always someone there to help them if they are feeling unhappy. Like an extended family, pupils take pride in each other’s successes and provide support to each other.”
The inspectors praised the progress being made by pupils across a range of subjects, noting that pupils “learn to apply their knowledge to become creative problem-solvers.”
“Pupils benefit from an exceptionally well-planned programme of activities and lessons that help them understand the role they have in society. As a result, pupils have a deep and meaningful awareness of diversity, equal opportunity and respect. There is no tolerance for unkindness.”
Ofsted found that teachers “are proud to work at the school. They share leaders' ambition and vision for pupils. They are determined to make it a reality” and the environment is “calm and purposeful... where all can thrive.”
The inspectors acknowledged the school’s wide range of social, cultural, and sporting experiences, saying “There is a large range of after-school clubs and experiences. This offer goes beyond the traditional school offer such as learning an instrument. Pupils have the chance to learn about Japanese culture or programming artificial intelligence. Pupils value these opportunities and take advantage of them.”
