Hewett Academy students are celebrating this morning as they secure a record set of GCSE results.

Nervous students burst into celebration as they found out their grades, which saw an impressive 74% of them secure grades 9-4 in both English and maths – an 11% increase on last year (2023: 63% 9-4). 55% were 9-5, a 12% jump on last year’s results (2023: 43% 9-5).

The Norwich based school has had an outstanding year. Renowned for its exceptional visual arts offer, it recently launching its art scholarship and currently has a staggering eight students’ work included in the Royal Academy of Arts’ Young Artists’ Summer Show 2024. Every student achieved a grade 5 or higher in GCSE photography and 93% received 5 or above in graphics.

Principal, Antony Little said:

“The whole team at Hewett would like to say a huge ‘well done’ to our Year 11s.

You have been a wonderful group of young people to work with and have shown the best of Hewett values.  You have bought hard work, dedication and passion to your studies, and these record-breaking exam results are testament to that.

You’ve proved that anything in life is possible if you approach it with the right attitude. Hewett students are now going on to great sixth forms, college courses and apprenticeships and I hope that you will take our school spirit with you.  We shall miss you enormously, probably more than you will ever really know, and our school will always be a better place for your time here with us.”

However, it’s not just the subjects you’d expect high performances – the creative arts – where students have excelled. Hewett has now seen its results improve for each of the three years since Covid, including in maths, where grades 4 and above were secured this year by 81% of students and in English, where the figure is 80%.

Digby Ives-O'Brien achieved nine GCSEs, including 5 at the very top grade 9. Digby is now holding an offer to study A Levels at Jane Austen College.

Ife Osupala came to Hewett from Nigeria a few years ago and is now leaving with 9 GCSE passes, including a grade 9 in maths, and grade 8s in chemistry, English language, English literature, French, geography, statistics and physics. Ife will take her passion for learning to Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form, an outstanding academy and part of the Inspiration Trust family.

Ife said:

“We moved because my parents wanted us to get a better education and school is very, very different. After sixth form, I would love to go on to university and study something in medicine.”

Yatharth Tiwali is another top student, who got grade 9s in maths and chemistry, grade 8s in biology, geography, physics and English.  Yatharth is off to study maths and sciences at Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form.
