Year 11 Students Star in ITV Interview on GCSE Exam Stress
BackOn Monday 15th May, three of our Year 11 students and our Head of English, Ms Sturgeon were interviewed by ITV News to hear their thoughts on the start of the exams and how they had been preparing for their GCSEs. The bulletin was aired on ITV's local news programme the same week.
The students shared their concerns about sitting their exams and said:
"[I'm] worrying about not performing as well as you can."
"Feeling like you're not going to live up to the potential that you know that you're capable of."
"The stress of knowing that you may not achieve the grades that you hope for, but that also motivates you to revise more."
Ms Strugeon's advice to parents of students taking their exams was:
"They will be stressed and they will be stroppy and they will take it out on you because you are a safe space and they can be children again there. We're putting a lot of pressure on them, the exams put a lot of pressure on them, so if they haven't tidied their room because they've got books all over it, leave it until the end of the exams. It's just not worth having those fights and adding stress levels, it's also not worth your blood pressure going through the roof!"
