Diggers on site mark next stage of Hewett Academy Rebuild Project

Construction is underway at Norwich-based Hewett Academy, with initial works started across the grounds.  

During March and April, Kier Group have started preliminary work on site, cordoning off parts of the school in preparation for rebuilding plans, and commencing demolition on some of the buildings in the east wing.  

These redevelopment plans include not only refurbishment of the central building, but to also add a two-storey extension to provide new teaching and sport accommodation, in keeping with the local area and to honour the history and culture of the school. The existing pool building will also be refurbished, an amenity that is regularly used by both the school and local community groups.

Timeline: 

2015 – Hewett joins the Inspiration Trust 

July 2022 – Hewett Academy named as one of the 61 schools listed on the Department of Education’s School Rebuilding Programme  

Dec 2023 – public consultation event 

Feb 2024 – planning permission application validated 

Sep 2024 – planning permission granted 

March 2025 – contractors on site 

April 2025 – demolition begins
