School of Sanctuary (1)Hewett Academy has been named as Norfolk’s latest school of sanctuary, opening up our doors to those who require support as they come to the UK to rebuild their lives.  City of Sanctuary UK co-ordinates and supports organisations, including schools, who wish to go above and beyond in welcoming those from a displaced background.

The award now means Hewett can benefit from both collaboration and training to help us go even further.

Principal Antony Little said:

“This award celebrates the work we have done so far, but also signals our intent to be as open and welcoming as possible.  Hewett is such a diverse school which is one of our great strengths, attracting students from all over the world to come here.  The School of Sanctuary scheme is an excellent way of signifying that education is inclusive and safe.”

Assistant Principal Amy Lee said:

“From our inclusive curriculum, including an innovative GCSE pathway, to the diversity groups within school, Hewett is a great place for everybody to learn.  We are an open school and have recently had excellent feedback about our work.  This award will cement that work.”
