Students at Hewett Academy have marked Remembrance Day with a series of events looking at the wider impact of war on society. In their assemblies last week, students considered if anybody comes out of war unscathed - those who lay down their lives for freedom, alongside the impact on those who survive, those on the Home Front and the professionals, like doctors and nurses, who treat the wounded.
On 11th November, students who serve in the uniformed services came to school in their uniforms to raise the profile of their work and the school came together for a minute's silence to mark those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
Principal Antony Little said:
"As the passage of time moves on, it becomes even more crucial that young people take the time to remember and give thanks to previous generations who gave their today for our tomorrow. It was enlightening to talk with students speak about their family members who had fought in wars - both in the last century and the more recent conflicts. The silence in the school was a very special moment, knowing that the whole community came together to give thanks and remember."
