At Hewett Academy, we value every member of our school community and we want every child to achieve their full potential.

We believe an educationally inclusive school is one in which the teaching and learning achievements, attitudes and well-being of every young person matter, irrespective of academic ability or social background.

Hewett Academy fully embraces inclusion at the core of its practice and fully recognises that a whole-school co-ordinated approach is the key to providing opportunities for each student to develop, academically and socially, to ensure achievement at an individual level, in order to reach full potential. 

As part of this, we offer:

  • a specialist resource base (ASD)
  • a dedicated SEND team offering support in both lessons and in the SRB
  • student support to access as much of the normal curriculum as possible
  • students with SEND are, where possible in smaller classes with TA support for the class
  • students may be offered additional tutoring with 1:1 or small group sessions
  • hearing loop equipment in all classrooms.

The special educational needs co-ordinator (SENDCo) has the responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the academy’s SEND policy and also operates in accordance with the national code of practice.

The Norfolk SEND Local Offer website is for anyone in the life of a child or young person aged 0-25 who has a special educational need and/or disability (SEND) in Norfolk. The website can help you: 

  • Find information on support in education 
  • Learn about special needs services that can help children, young people and their families

  • Get guidance and advice about how to help a young person plan their adult life
